Pak-Italy bilateral trade potential great Italian Trade Commissioner
The present bilateral trade regime between Pakistan and Italy is no way near the actual potential and it is imperative that Pakistani exporters should not limit themselves to just supplying traditional items like rice and other low value added cotton textile products and should endeavor to introduce other products that are required by the Italian consumers. One vital and crucial way of exploring Italian market is to organize frequent single-country exhibition in major cities of Italy and the KCCI must take initiative in this regard. Italian Trade Commission is organizing a Seminar on Textile Machinery at Sheraton Hotel, Karachi with the objective to create Awareness about the Italian textile machineries among the indigenous textile manufacturers and exporters. This was stated by Dr. Marco Pintus, Trade Commissioner of Italy while talking to Mr. Shamim Ahmed Shamsi, President Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry and members of the Managing Committee, during his visit to the Chamber on November 6, 2007.
Earlier the Chamber Chief while welcoming the Italian Trade Commissioner said, Pakistan is although one of the largest suppliers of cotton and products in the global market but despite almost all expertise and know-how, its present optimum level of value addition is 1:3 as against the international level of 1: 9.5, mainly due to a missing link of state of art latest technology which can be filled-in by Italy through transfer of technology to Pakistan..
The Chambers President highlighting the Trade Commissioner of Italy about the KCCI 5th My. Karachi An Oasis of Harmony exhibition which has now become an international event and would be held in June, 2008 at Expo Centre, Karachi said, All the previous four exhibitions were acclaimed as successful events and went a far way in boosting the image of the country as well as providing outlets for successful business transactions and for signing of bilateral protocol. He through the Italian Trade Commissioner invited the businessmen in Italy to participate in the KCCI Exhibition in a big way as it would provide an excellent channel to promote Italian product-lines and a great exposure for Italian Companies to display / sale their products to thousands of visitors/consumers.
Mr. Iftikhar Ahmed Sheikh, Senior Vice President; Mr. Haroon Agar, Vice President; and Managing Committee members Mr. Alamgir Khokar, Mr. Ovais Siddik Jaangda, Mr. Muhammad Usman, and Ms. Durre Shawar, Chairman, Women Entrepreneurs Sub-Committee were also present in the meeting.
